Scrub Oak Woodland

Large areas of the foothills and mesas south and west of Denver are covered by nearly pure stands of the native Scrub Oak (Quercus gambelii), which rarely grows higher than 10 or 15 feet. This habitat is not usually very birdy, but Spotted Towhee is abundant, and especially in the northwest part of the state, the oaks can be good for Blue Grouse.
