Spotted Owl

Description: Perhaps the single most difficult of Colorado's regular breeding birds to find. One population inhabits southwest canyons, principally within the boundaries of Mesa Verde National Park; another population is thinly distributed in the Wet Mountains and along the southern slopes of the Pikes Peak massif. Has been known to wander. This species is rare and sensitive to disturbance, and its precise breeding locations are typically not revealed to the public.
